After announcing support for high-resolution lossless audio and spatial audio with Dolby Atmos in Apple Music earlier this year, Apple began rolling out the feature in various countries by the end of June. However, the new feature was not available to Apple Music subscribers in India until now. But today, the Cupertino giant has started rolling out support for lossless audio and spatial audio in India.
Apple started rolling out new Apple Music features in other countries in June, but the feature was delayed in India. The Apple Music website for India had a “Coming Soon” label for the longest time. However, according to a recent report on Twitter from a number of Apple Music subscribers in India, Apple is finally rolling out support for high-resolution lossless audio and spatial audio for Apple Music subscribers in India.
If you’re interested in trying out lossless audio on your iPhone or iPad, here’s how to find out if the feature is rolling out. Open the Settings app and go to Music → Audio Quality. Here you’ll see a new “Lossless Audio” toggle at the top. Once enabled, you can enjoy high-fidelity audio streaming with Apple Music. You can learn more in our detailed article on how to play lossless audio on Apple Music.

Additionally, Apple Music lossless audio support is not limited to Apple devices such as iPads, iPhones, and Macs. You can also enjoy lossless audio with Apple Music for Android. Yes, the Cupertino giant has enabled functionality for its streaming app for Android, but there’s a catch. The lossless audio feature is currently only available in Apple Music version 3.6.0 beta on Android. I installed the Apple Music beta app on my OnePlus Nord running Android 11 and it worked perfectly fine.

Now, for those who don’t know, the new Hi-Res Lossless Audio is a new audio format that provides studio-quality audio on Apple’s music streaming platform. Apple Music’s aforementioned technology supports most lines of high-end earphones and headphones, but surprisingly, it doesn’t support any models of AirPods. However, AirPods owners can enjoy Apple’s own Spatial Audio technology, a proprietary technology that provides listeners with a surround sound experience.
Apple Music’s website has long labeled these features as “coming soon,” but the company is now emphasizing lossless audio features to attract potential customers. So, are the new features available to you if you are an Apple Music subscriber in India? Let us know in the comments section below.
