Reliance Jio launches free video conferencing service JioMeet

Reliance Jio has officially launched its free video conferencing service called JioMeet. The service was briefly available a few months ago, but the telecom giant has now made it available to everyone.

JioMeet competes with the likes of Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. JioMeet allows you to host meetings with up to 100 participants . This service allows for up to 24 hours of uninterrupted HD (720p) calls .

During the testing phase, JioMeet supported only 5 participants for free users and required the Pro plan to support 100 participants. But the company has made its service completely free to attract Indian viewers amid privacy concerns over rival Zoom.

Meetings are password protected, so random people can’t join or interrupt your session. Additionally, there is a digital waiting room where hosts can approve who will attend the meeting.

Multi-device login is supported for up to 5 devices . The company promises that you will be able to seamlessly switch from one device to another during a call. A “safe driving mode” is also available.

JioMeet is very easy to use. You can create a new JioMeet account by entering your name, email address, or contact number. JioMeet also allows you to sign in with your company domain.

Thanks to WebRTC support, you can join JioMeet calls from your web browser without having to install any special applications. According to JioMeet, users can join from Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. However, you also have the option of installing dedicated apps on major platforms such as Android , iOS , Windows , and macOS . This service also provides an Outlook plugin .
