Popular electric car maker Tesla has filed a patent for a ” pulsed laser cleaning ” system. This essentially refers to advanced windshield wipers that work using a laser beam to clean the glass.
According to this patent, the system automatically detects dirt on the glass and uses this laser-driven mechanism to clean it. The company plans to introduce this system to solar panels and roof tiles as well.
The patent points out that the current method of spraying soap solution onto glass results in unproductive time due to the need to wait for the glass to dry in order to obtain full visibility. It is also promised that this new implementation will not damage other components or injure anyone inside the vehicle.
“The cleaning device can be installed in the vehicle as a modular device and can also be installed in the vehicle as a modular device to clean various glass products such as windshields, vehicle camera lenses, side windows, etc. “A rearview mirror that can provide a contactless means for
With this patent, it’s safe to assume that Tesla’s next Cybertruck will feature this laser wiper technology. For now, we’ll have to wait until next year to see how things turn out.
Tesla has a track record of open sourcing patents to improve the world. Judging by this history, if laser-based wipers work as intended, the electric car giant may open source the patent and more automakers may adopt the technology.
So what do you think about the concept of using laser beams instead of traditional wipers? Let us know in the comments.
