Many questioned the logic behind Amazon’s Prime Days, especially in markets like the US, where nearly all Amazon customers are already Prime customers. But now that Amazon has announced exactly how successful Prime has been in increasing sales volume, the idea behind such sales is clear.
According to Amazon, in 2017 it successfully shipped over 5 billion items through its Amazon Prime service. This is a good enough number to measure Prime’s success. But it’s not just the sales numbers that are impressive; so is Prime’s adoption rate, which hit a high in 2017.
Commenting on Amazon Prime’s incredible growth rate, Amazon said, “More new paying members joined Prime this year than last year around the world.”
In an official press release issued by Business Wire, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, Amazon revealed that 2017 proved to be the best year for Amazon Prime. Delivery, Shopping, and Entertainment recorded their highest utility in service history.
As far as products are concerned, Amazon’s smart speakers Echo and Fire Stick emerged as the best-selling gadgets last year. As for other categories, here are some of the more popular ones:
- Prime Music: Believer by Imagine Dragons
- Prime Reading: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
- Prime Video: The Grand Tour
- Most Gifted Product on Amazon Wedding Registry: Instant Pot
Commenting on this impressive performance, Greg Greeley, Vice President of Amazon Prime, said: Prime is even better in 2018. ”
