Sony may be planning to compete with Microsoft’s popular Xbox Game Pass subscription service by launching its own subscription. Officials have suggested that rivals to Sony’s Xbox Game Pass (as well as Google Stadia and Amazon Luna) are in development and could launch in the spring.
Competitors to Sony’s XBox Game Pass coming soon
Sony’s game subscription service, codenamed “Spartacus,” will include a slew of modern and classic gaming titles for users, a Bloomberg report has revealed. You can gain access by paying a monthly fee. The service is expected to integrate Sony’s existing PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now subscriptions.
The PlayStation Plus service offers online multiplayer games and free monthly titles, while the Now service consists of older PS5 games that users can play and download. Combined, this could lead to Sony destroying the PlayStation Now brand. However, PlayStation Plus will remain.
The service is expected to be in three stages, although details have not been fully disclosed. The first tier will offer existing PlayStation Plus benefits, the second tier will come with PlayStation 4 games, and eventually PS5 games as well. The third tier will be high-end and will include additional benefits such as extended demos, online games, and game titles available for PlayStation 1, 2, 3, and PSP.
If Sony launches a gaming subscription service, it could help it become more popular than Xbox Game Pass, given how popular the company’s gaming consoles are already. However, I don’t know how to plan it yet. Additionally, similar to Xbox Game Pass, we don’t know if it intends to offer exclusive titles to users upon release. Another thing you need to do is keep the subscription price reasonable, if not lower than Game Pass, which starts at $9.99 per month.
Additionally, it has been suggested that Sony is likely to focus on cloud gaming once again to compete with Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. We offer a wide range of titles that can be played on consoles, PC, mobile phones and even tablets. We also offer support for Xbox Cloud Gaming in select regions.
There is no concrete information as of this writing, so we’ll have to wait for Sony to release official details to get a better idea. We will let you know as soon as we know the details. Are you excited about Sony’s game subscription service? Let us know in the comments section below.
