Chrome OS is generally bug-free and provides a seamless experience, whether you’re using Linux on your Chromebook or trying to run Windows apps on your Chromebook. I’ve been playing Steam games on my Chromebook and sideloading apps with developer mode turned on in Chrome OS, and haven’t had any issues until recently. But after the last update, the Wi-Fi broke down and stopped working at all. In such a scenario, you have no choice but to revert to an older version of Chrome OS on your Chromebook. If you are also facing such issues, you can downgrade your Chrome OS to an earlier build by following our guide.
Revert Chrome OS to an older version on your Chromebook (2022)
1. First, open Settings by clicking the gear icon in the Quick Settings panel.
2. Next, click the search bar at the top of the settings page and search for “powerwash.” Next, open “Powerwash” from the search results.
3. Once you’re here, click Reset . Doing this will completely factory reset your Chromebook, so be sure to back up any important files.
4. Then click Restart and your Chromebook will restart immediately.
5. After rebooting, wait for a while and a Powerwash window will appear on the login screen. Click Powerwash to reset your Chromebook.
6. This process will take a few minutes and your Chromebook will restart again. This time a welcome screen opens. Do not continue using your Google Account at this point, as the rollback step has not yet been performed.
7. At the welcome screen, press Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R and another Powerwash prompt will appear. Again, do not reset your device as this will not serve the purpose of downgrading. Instead, move on to the next step.
8. On the Powerwash screen, press “Ctrl + Alt + Shift + R” again and this time you will see the option to “Powerwash and Undo”. You can revert to an older version of Chrome OS on your Chromebook. Click Powerwash and Restore .
9. Please be patient as the downgrade process will take a few minutes. You will then see a welcome screen and be able to log in with your Google Account .
10. Finally, open Settings and you’ll see that your Chromebook has successfully reverted Chrome OS to an older version . Here’s how to downgrade Chrome OS to a previous build.
Downgrade Chrome OS to an older version on your Chromebook
To roll back Chrome OS to an older version, you need to follow these steps: I was facing Wi-Fi issues with my HP Chromebook, but moving to the last build resolved the issue. Anyway, that’s pretty much it for this guide. If you want to install Google’s new Chrome OS Flex on your Windows PC or Mac, follow the detailed tutorial linked here. We also have a guide to help you if you’re not happy with your experience and want to remove Chrome OS Flex and reinstall Windows on your computer.
