This year has been a great year for horror video game fans so far, especially with the release of Resident Evil 4 and the Dead Space remake. Horror games have a certain adrenaline rush that makes it hard to drop the controller. I’ll be honest: I don’t have the stomach for a game like Outlast. However, the satisfaction of having managed to accomplish something is priceless. If you get similar pleasure from playing games like this, here’s a list of the best horror titles you can play on PC right now. However, please note that this list is not for the faint of heart.
1. Resident Evil 4 Remake
For me, the best horror game right now is Resident Evil 4 Remake. Let’s admit it. Remaking is difficult. There’s just too much pressure to make an already near-perfect game even better. But Capcom seems to have mastered the remake formula, with each formula being better than the previous one (cough, you’re not RE3 Remake). Just when I thought I couldn’t top Resident Evil 2 Remake, Resident Evil 2 Remake smashed it for me.
This is perfect for a survival horror game. It’s not a pure survival horror movie like Resident Evil 7 or an action movie like Resident Evil Village, but it perfectly blends horror and action to get the best of both worlds. Wait until you see the new design of the extremely scary regenera doll . Nothing you do will prepare you for that.

2. Dead Space Remake
Well, I’ll say it again and again this time. Dead Space is the best survival horror game set in space. You’re probably wondering what about Callisto Protocol , a game that aims to be Dead Space. Well, that’s the problem. It tries to be Dead Space, but it doesn’t exactly surpass the original in any way. As if the original wasn’t good enough, EA decided to improve on it with a remake. Let me just say this: this is the best remake of Dead Space.
The remake includes many additional features that make it even more immersive. First off, Necromorphs are obviously pretty scary looking. And then there’s USG Ishimura, which comes to life with the most detailed textures. If you don’t mention this remake as one of the best horror games, then you should definitely stop playing survival horror games. That’s very good.

3. Resident Evil 2 Remake
As mentioned before, Capcom has certainly been on a roll since Resident Evil 7, and Resident Evil 2 Remake was just phenomenal. One of the main problems with the Resident Evil 3 remake was that it failed to make Nemesis as terrifying an antagonist as Resident Evil 2’s Mr. That should never have happened, and Capcom certainly missed a huge opportunity here. However, the Resident Evil 2 remake was even scarier due to the ever-present threat of Mr.
Yes, the match could have been longer. However, although you only play the game for a short time, you will never forget it. I revisit this game from time to time, and each time I replay it I realize what a masterpiece it is. It’s scary, challenging, and one of the most sophisticated games Capcom has ever released.

4. Appearance
Hideo Kojima is a big name in the gaming industry, creating masterpieces such as the Metal Gear series of games and Death Stranding. Now, back in 2014, Kojima teamed up with Konami to release a demo version of what was supposed to be a sequel to the Silent Hill series. They called this demonstration PT . The project was canceled after Kojima and Konami parted ways. Although PT came to an end far too soon, this demo is still considered one of the best horror games ever made. That’s exactly how and why Visage was created with inspiration from PT.
If you’ve played the PT demo, you’ll notice that Visage’s gameplay mechanics and setting are strikingly similar. Visage does a great job of doing their best to do justice to the masterpiece demo that Kojima dreamed of completing. When you start the game, nothing special happens at first. But the atmosphere is enough to send a chill down your spine. Literally, it’s hard to maintain your sanity in the game, and if your sanity drops too low, you’ll be killed by the Entity.

5. Segregation of foreigners
Ridley Scott’s Alien series will always be one of my favorite science fiction movies. Once you finish reading this series, you’ll appreciate Alien Isolation even more. The 2014 game perfectly recreates the feel and setting of the game. No other game gives you the feeling of being constantly watched and chased.
Plus, the Xenomorph AI is way too smart. If you walk too far in the area, you’ll be spotted by super-intelligent aliens. If you use the same hiding place too many times, you will still be found. To outwit the aliens, you need to act more carefully and more quietly. So you don’t have to run around like a madman too often. Otherwise, you will die.
The only way to actually keep the aliens at bay is with the flamethrower you get at the end of this great story. Not everyone has the necessary abilities to complete this game. So if that’s the case, give yourself a pat on the back.
6. Resident Evil 7 Resident Evil
After the release of Resident Evil 6 in 2012, the future of the series did not look bright. In short, fans weren’t happy with the series for Resident Evil 5 itself, as the bar for OG Resident Evil 4 was too high to cross. However, thanks to Resident Evil 7, the series has been reinvigorated. In Resident Evil 7, the game returned to its pure survival horror roots.
Resident Evil 7’s opening sequence is still considered the scariest in video game history. I’ve probably played this game a billion times by now. Once you’ve played the game on standard difficulty, we recommend giving Madhouse a try. This is the best way to unlock the true potential of Bio 7. Since Resident Evil 7, Capcom has been on a roll with remakes of great classics . Don’t worry, these remakes are also included in this list. Easily and rightfully one of the best, if not the best horror game ever made for the PC.
7. Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Recently, an asymmetrical horror game similar to Dead by Daylight was released and took the internet by storm. Yes, I’m talking about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Unlike Dead by Daylight, you don’t see or play a bunch of murderers. The game is based on TCM lore and allows you and your friends to play as one of three other murderers and hunt down four teenagers. The graphics are great, yes. However, what makes this game stand out is its immersive gameplay, making it one of the best online games to play in the horror genre.
Killer and victim each have unique abilities that they can use to their advantage in killing or surviving. There are also many gameplay elements that you need to understand in order to have fun playing the game. The best part is that it’s a 7-player game, so you can have hours of fun with your friends. Is it scary and fun? Please consider me all!
8. Amnesia: The Bunker
There is no need to explain the Amnesia series. This is one of the games that revolutionized the survival horror genre as we know it today. It’s been over a decade since the first Amnesia game was released, and it’s good to see the series come up with new titles from time to time. Previously there was Amnesia: Rebirth. This year saw the release of Amnesia: The Bunker. This is one of the scariest games I’ve played in years.
In fact, I’d go so far as to say that this is probably the scariest Amnesia game you can play right now. Now, I know a lot of people probably still find the OG first game to be the scariest. However, those new to the series or the survival horror genre itself will feel the same way. That’s not to say that initial amnesia doesn’t work. It is still in playable condition. However, The Bunker’s audio design and setting set it apart from other games, making it one of the best horror games you can play today.
9. Outlast Series
I can proudly say that my tolerance for playing horror games has increased significantly in recent years. I no longer get easily scared or scared while playing. But when it comes to the Outlast series, I can’t keep my sanity. Whether it was the first Outlast or Outlast 2, I always found there to be too many breaks. This is one of those series that will have you pausing the game frequently.
This is mainly due to the fact that there is no way to attack the enemy. Having only a video camera to record all the disturbing events happening around you, you can’t help but feel helpless throughout. What will you do if you find an enemy? Just hide. What if they chase you? run!
One of the things I really liked about Outlast Trials is that while it maintains the same intense and crazy chase as the other two games, it adds more replayability thanks to the multiplayer-focused gameplay. That’s what I’m doing. Additionally, you are not completely helpless and can also use certain things to distract your enemies. You can play alone, but it’s much more fun to play this game with friends.
Purchase Outlast , Outlast II , Outlast Trial
10. Evil Within Series
When The Evil Within first came out in 2014, it couldn’t be scarier. The game’s slow sales probably had something to do with the fact that most people weren’t ready for a similar game. Additionally, in my opinion, the Evil Within series has some of the best boss fights seen in a horror game. It also has some of the best designed monsters to cause nightmares. For example, Laura is coming out of her worst nightmare, and every time I see her, I can’t help but pray for it to end as soon as possible.
The Evil Within 2 is still one of my favorite horror games, and I like it even more than the first game. The first game seemed very clunky in terms of controls. In addition to smoother controls, Evil Within 2 also takes the graphics up a notch. Bones and skin… I have to eat . If you don’t know what I’m talking about, just play the game.
Purchase “The Evil Within” and “The Evil Within 2”
11. Forest and Sons of the Forest
The Forest is a great example of what a small team of four can accomplish. Yes, that’s right. When the series started in 2014 with The Forest, it became popular in the horror gaming community thanks to its true survival horror gameplay and mechanics. This game is difficult, especially if you want to play alone. The real fun lies in playing the series with friends.
Both games are great, but if you want a more graphically immersive experience, we recommend playing the latest Sons of the Forest. However, I recommend playing both games to understand the wonders such a small team can accomplish. These games are perfect examples of how to perfectly blend simulation and horror, and no other game comes close to perfecting this formula.
12. The Disappearance of Ethan Carter
If you’ve played and are a fan of the Telltale series of games, you’ll absolutely love the narrative gameplay of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter . This is an almost 10 year old game at this point, but once you play it you’ll be amazed at how great it all is. Beautiful graphics instantly immerse you in the world. Additionally, if you purchase the base game, you’ll also get the Unreal Engine 4 Remaster for free. This further improves the overall experience.
There isn’t much to offer in terms of gameplay, but the eerie atmosphere and great storyline will keep you playing forever. Not to mention this one jump scare that will catch you off guard. So I took off too, so yes, don’t say you weren’t warned. With all this in mind, this has to be one of the best horror games I’ve ever played on PC.
13.Dead by Daylight
Have you always been a horror fanatic? Personally, I grew up watching Michael Myers from Friday the 13th , Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street , Sadako Yamamura from The Ring , and many other movie characters ( Of course, I couldn’t sleep for many nights). The best horror movie out there. If you can successfully identify each of the characters I just mentioned, you’ll definitely love Dead by Daylight.
Dead by Daylight lets you play as all these characters and many more. Therein lies the real fun, and why Dead by Daylight is still one of the most played horror games seven years after its release. The best thing about this game is that it is purely a multiplayer game. In other words, you can have hours of fun playing with your friends. You can play as the killer or one of the survivors. Either way, there’s a certain thrill to playing the game, which automatically increases replayability.
14.Little Nightmares Series
You probably won’t play a side-scrolling horror game anytime soon because it probably won’t give you enough scares. But that’s not the case with Little Nightmares. As for the first game, it’s only 5 hours long, but it’s perfect if you ask me. None of the elements overstay their welcome, moving gradually and very smoothly from one place to another.
The same goes for Little Nightmares 2, and once you’ve played both games you’ll realize how perfectly paced they really are. The atmosphere is also something that both games are very good at building. The sound design keeps you uncomfortable and the various creatures are very well crafted, which certainly adds to the creepiness of the whole thing. “The Teacher” was truly chilling. I mean, I was thinking about those two games long after they were over. Certainly one of the best horror games. 9215676766
Buy Little Nightmares , Little Nightmares 2
15. Phobia
I don’t know about you, but the very concept of ghost hunting has always been very exciting to me. That’s exactly why I love Phasmophobia so much. It’s just good old ghost hunting, that’s all. But hunting ghosts in Phasmophobia isn’t easy. There are many gameplay elements that you need to understand well in order to be successful. Plus, you can always team up with your Steam friends to make the process ten times more fun. However, if you want an immersive experience, it’s best to play solo.
What I really love about Phasmophobia is its extremely high replayability. Every run is fun, and when friends are involved, it’s never-ending. So, if you are looking for the best multiplayer horror game, Phasmophobia is the one for you.
The most anticipated horror game of the future
Now that you know about the best horror games you can play on PC, let’s take a look at the most anticipated games as well. Yes, it doesn’t end with RE4 and Dead Space Remake. Remake season has just begun.
1. Alan Wake 2
Release date: October 17, 2023 Platforms: P S5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S Watch trailer
I’m a huge fan of Remedy, who have produced hits like Max Payne, Quantum Break, and Alan Wake. Moreover, even Control is a Remedy game. Remedy has always shown a creative flair, coming up with games that use unique mechanics. This is commonly seen in Control and Quantum Break. Alan Wake was no exception, and was a very good horror game for its time. Alan Wake Remastered was pretty good too, so Alan Wake 2 will be arriving soon. This survival horror game is currently available for pre-order.
2. Alone in the Dark
Release date: October 25, 2023 Platforms: P S5, Windows, Xbox Series X/S Watch trailer
1992’s Alone in the Dark was a classic horror experience filled with puzzles and ghouls. It is currently being remade with the same title and is expected to be released in October of this year. The best thing is that you can try out the game’s prologue for free here right now. Just go to Steam and download it for free. This will give you a good insight into how the game will turn out. As I said before, 2023 is the perfect year for horror lovers.
3. Silent Hill 2 Remake
Konami’s Silent Hill has an entirely separate fanbase, and the OG Silent Hill series of games was the source of many people’s nightmares. Of course, playing these games now will have little impact as the graphics and playstyle are outdated. But that’s about to change, as Silent Hill 2 is officially planned.
Release date: Late 2023 (expected based on leaks) Platforms: PS5, Windows Watch trailer
