AMD FSR 3 will launch next month, new leak suggests

It looks like AMD is finally gearing up to release the long-awaited FSR 3.0 update sometime next month. This could put AMD’s FidelityFX on par with Nvidia’s deep learning supersampling (DLSS) technology. AMD FSR 3.0 launch is just around the corner, release date leaked

Famed hardware leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead claims through confidential sources that FSR 3 is almost ready . This is very positive news and means that AMD is ready to release a new update for FSR. The leak shows the release date for FSR 3. It could launch next month (September 2023), and OEM partners will likely be notified by AMD that they are planning a FSR 3 briefing this week . But even if that doesn’t happen, leaks suggest that FSR 3 should be ready by Q4 2023.

DLSS is closed-source in nature and relies on architecture-specific hardware found on modern Nvidia GPUs. FSR, on the other hand, is more open source and works with older graphics cards. We don’t know if (and to what extent) FSR 3 will be supported on older GPUs, but it will continue to provide much-needed performance on AMD’s existing RX 7000 series GPU lineup.

Is AMD’s FSR 3.0 comparable to Nvidia’s DLSS 3?

The above leak ends by stating that AMD’s goal is to bring FSR 3 “out for review in Navi 32. ” If this goal is achieved, the overall reaction to the new RDNA 3 GPU from hardware media outlets could be very positive. However, this depends entirely on how good FSR 3.0 is. I have personally tested DLSS 3 and the various visual quality improvements compared to release. Nvidia has done an amazing job with this, and we hope AMD can match the same standards.

Still, it’s exciting to see AMD gearing up to release an update to its FSR technology with new features for frame generation. Finally, they will get an answer for Nvidia’s DLSS 3 . This feature is one of the key USPs that NVIDIA offers across its RTX 40 series GPU lineup. Enthusiast GPUs from AMD and Nvidia are already very fast and don’t need much support with DLSS 3 frame generation. However, when you consider mid-range products such as the RTX 4060 Ti (reviewed here), frame generation technology becomes more important.

RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti GPU users enjoy DLSS 3 with improved FPS numbers. However, AMD’s mid-range offering, the RX 7600, has been neglected. It costs less than the RTX 4060 in many markets, which makes it attractive to many, but it still won’t magically insert AI-generated frames into your games .
