Google Trends reveals the most searched games of 2023

It’s no exaggeration to say that 2023 was a great year for video games, and Google Trends reveals the same. Google’s Year in Search report has been released and includes the most searched topics in various categories. Year in Review also lists the top 10 most searched video games on Google in 2023, so take a look.

The Year in Search 2023 report shows you all the games that are frequently searched for on Google. Some of the names on the list are obvious, while others are surprising. The list begins with Hogwarts Legacy dominating the top spot with the most searches across platforms.

The magical game has become the most searched for due to the controversy surrounding Harry Potter author JK Rowling and her stance on the transgender community. While there was constant discussion in the months after release, the week of release saw the biggest spike in searches.

Of course, the usual suspects, Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 are also on the list. Here are the top 10 video game searches of 2023, according to Google Trends.

Similarly, The Last of Us ranks as the second most searched video game on Google. One reason for this could be the launch of the first season of an HBO show based on the game, as well as a remake for PC. As you may know, the PC remake had a tough time. Therefore, some searches may be from disgruntled players trying to find fixes for the game.

Unfortunately, while The Last of Us 2 was searched a lot, another notable PlayStation game from this year didn’t make the list. Spider-Man 2 was one of the biggest PS5 releases this year, but it didn’t even make it into Google’s top 10 searches.

Diablo 4, the latest installment of the long-running action RPG, sits in eighth place. The game had a rough time after its release, but with new and regular content updates, it’s slowly getting back on track.

At the bottom of the list is the sequel to Endnight’s 2018 survival horror game The Forest. Sons of the Forest was released to great fanfare, with the fanbase celebrating its release and newbies becoming interested in the game. Considering the gameplay, the search was probably based on information related to the game.

One of the most surprising searches is for Suika games. For those who don’t know, Suika is a physics-based Tetris-like game where you try to score as many points as possible. Suika became popular around October when popular VTubers such as Hololive and Nijisanji started playing the game via streaming. It ranks 7th on the trend list.
