How to change your Spotify username

Whether you’re adding a friend to Spotify or just trying to log in, your username plays an important role. But if you’re here, you’re probably just as confused as we are at first. Spotify has two different names that you can use to identify yourself on the platform. One is your Spotify display name and the other is your username. Perhaps you’re thinking, aren’t these the same? Well, that’s not true. Read on to clear up the confusion and learn how to change your Spotify profile name.

Spotify username and display name

It took me a while to wrap my head around the fact that your Spotify display name and username are two completely different things. Your Spotify username is a randomized string of numbers and letters assigned to you when you create your account.

This username allows Spotify to uniquely identify you on the platform. And you should know that Spotify does not allow you to change your username. Also, your username will only be visible when you share your profile with others.

However, you can change your Spotify display name at any time, which works similarly to your Instagram username. Additionally, you can change the display name as many times as you like. This name will appear when someone visits your profile on Spotify. So if you’re like me and were confusing your username and display name, this should fix your problem.

How to change Spotify display name on Android and iOS

The process for changing your display name is slightly different between the Spotify mobile app and the web app. The steps are the same for Android and iOS, but we’re using the former for the demo. Please check the steps below.

• Open the Spotify app and tap your profile picture in the top left.
• Then tap your profile name in the hamburger menu.
• Then tap the Edit button just below your full display name.
• From here, tap on your name and edit it as desired.
• Then tap Save in the top left corner of the screen.

Change the display name on the Spotify website and desktop app

• Open the Spotify web or desktop app. Then click on your profile picture in the top right corner and select the Profile option .
• On your profile page, click the three horizontal dots icon below your profile photo and select the Edit Profile option.

• Enter the new display name in the text box and click the Save button.
