Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter and made controversial changes such as the recent Twitter rate limits, the user community has been looking for alternatives. Sensing an opportunity, Mark Zuckerberg released Threads by Instagram, a text-based microblogging app similar to Twitter. Users are now migrating to Threads en masse, and so far it has amassed over 50 million users in just one day. However, if you want to protect your Threads account, you must enable two-factor authentication (2FA) in Threads. Follow our simple tutorial to set up 2FA with threads.
1. Open the Threads app and go to your profile .
2. Tap the menu icon in the top right corner.
3. Then go to Account -> Security . This will take you to the Meta Account Center.
4. Now tap Two-factor authentication .
5. Next, select your Instagram account. Threads uses your Instagram account as an identifier, so you must enable 2FA for your Instagram account . This also enables two-factor authentication for Threads.
6. Now select one of the security methods . We chose SMS because it’s easy to set up, but you can also use an authenticator app or WhatsApp for added security.
7. Next, enter the one-time PIN you received on your phone number.
8. That’s it! Two-factor authentication is now also enabled for Threads and Instagram .
9. We also highly recommend generating a backup code in case you lose access to your phone number. Tap ” Additional methods “.
10. Now select the “ Backup Code ” option.
11. Save your backup code in a safe place . If you don’t have access to any of the authentication methods, you can use one of these codes to sign in to your Threads or Instagram account.
Besides that, you can also learn how to delete or deactivate your Threads account in case you get bored with your new social media app. Apart from that, you can also change your Threads username. A dedicated guide is available. And if you’re not happy with threads, check out some of the other Twitter alternatives while you’re here.
