How to make obsidian using lava and water in Minecraft

Let’s create obsidian blocks in several ways, including an unlimited generator.

Obsidian has excellent blast resistance and has many utilities, including the creation of Minecraft beacons, nether portals, enchantment tables, and more.

And since this is such a premium item, why is it so easily available?

Naturally, they spawn in the Nether, the End, and the Overworld. In short, we recommend creating one, as it will be much easier with minimal effort.

Make obsidian in Minecraft

You will need a water block and a lava “X” block. Where “X” is the number of obsidian blocks to create.

However, if adjusting the game rules is a practical option, you can also create an obsidian farm with stairs, one water block, and two lava blocks.

The third method is to farm obsidian without changing the game rules.

Stay tuned as we will explain all these methods in detail.

Like anything you do in Minecraft, it requires crafting. We’ll talk about this at the end of everything covered in this guide.

Using lava and water blocks

This is one of the easiest ways to get some obsidian blocks.

Here, each piece of lava that comes into contact with flowing water turns into obsidian. Therefore, you only need one water block. However, for lava, the number of source blocks will be equal to the desired yield of obsidian.

Therefore, it is best to find naturally occurring lava lakes. Then pour water into a high place and let it flow over the lake.

However, if you need more obsidian, just take some empty buckets and fill them with as many obsidian blocks as you need.

This is rather my personal experience, and nowhere is it mentioned that lava lakes are infinite sources.

obsidian farm

There are two ways to create a renewable obsidian resource: by changing the game rules, or by not changing them. And of course, the former is the easier of the two. In any case, we will discuss both.

Method 1: Use Gamerule

First, /gamerule LavaSourceConversion must be set to true .

As already mentioned, you need stairs, two pieces of lava, and water. Then you can easily arrange a renewable obsidian generator as shown below.

This is the fastest method. However, if you don’t want or can’t change the game rules, move on to the next rule.

Method 2: Don’t adjust the game rules

This farm yields lava, which can be further used in running water to obtain obsidian.

The minimum required is one of the following:

  • cauldron
  • sharp drip stone
  • lava

These are all fairly easy to find, including the pointed and standard dripstones found in Dripstone Cave.

However, the main problem with such farms is that it takes a long time to empty and regenerate the lava.

Therefore, it must be built at scale to meet expected demand.

Note that if you already have a netherite pickaxe, you can also use it to mine obsidian.

summary!

Simply put, you need a lot of lava and a bucket of water. Plus, growing obsidian is fun and the game rules make it a lot easier.
