Huawei is scheduled to launch the new P30 and P30 Pro on March 26, 2019 in Paris, France. The date has been officially announced by the company, and just yesterday, the live stream link of the event was also published on the company’s official YouTube channel. The new P30 and P30 Pro smartphones are some of the worst-kept secrets in Huawei’s history. And although we expect some surprises, we already know almost everything about the new phone. From the design to the specs to the price, everything has been leaked in the last few days. So if you’re not patient enough to wait for the official keynote, here’s everything we know about the new Huawei P30 and P30 Pro.
Everything you need to know about Huawei P30 and P30 Pro
Readers who follow our smartphone reviews may know that we follow a structure that makes our reviews more streamlined. Well, we already know almost everything about the new phone, so we will follow the same structure. First, let’s take a look at the specs of the leaked phone. Next, we’ll discuss design, performance, and finally price and availability. Consider this article a preview of the Huawei P30 and P30 pro.
Huawei P30 and P30 Pro specifications
Huawei P30 Pro specifications
Both the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro will be powered by Huawei’s in-house Kirin 980 processor . Kirin 980 is an octa-core processor built on the latest 7 nm architecture. There are four Cortex-A76 cores, two clocked at 2.6 GHz and two at 1.92 GHz, and four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz. We’ve already seen this processor in recently launched phones, such as the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, and it’s a great feature. The chipset is fast and efficient. It is paired with Mali-G76 MP10, 8 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage.
As for the display, the Huawei P30 Pro comes with a 6.47-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1080*2340 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19:9 . The biggest USP of the Huawei P30 Pro is the camera. The back of the phone features a quad camera that supports 10x lossless zoom . This is unheard of in a smartphone, and consumers will definitely appreciate this feature.
The main lens of the quad-core setup will be a 40 MP lens with f/1.6 aperture . It also supports OIS. The second sensor will have a 20 MP lens with f/2.2 aperture. It becomes a wide-angle lens that allows you to take amazing wide-angle shots. The third sensor is an 8 MP lens, used for 10x lossless zoom, and the fourth sensor is a Time of Flight sensor, used for depth mapping in portrait shots . The selfie camera has a 32 MP lens in the top teardrop notch . Finally, there’s a 4200 mAh battery , which easily lasts a day.
Huawei P30 specifications
As mentioned above, the Huawei P30 is powered by the same Kirin 980 processor, but that’s where the similarities between the phones end. Apart from the processor, all other specifications of the regular P30 are different from the P30 Pro.
The display here uses an FHD+ panel with a resolution of 1080*2340 pixels . It uses a triple camera sensor at the back with a 40MP f/1.8 primary sensor without OIS. The other two sensors include a 16 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens and an 8 MP f/2.4 telephoto lens . The phone supports 5X lossless zoom . Selfies are handled by the same 32 MP sensor as the P30 Pro.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment here is the lack of OIS support. I hope this leak is wrong and I would like to see OIS support on the regular P30 as well. The battery is also smaller as it only has a 3650 mAh battery . However, that’s understandable considering the P30 is smaller than the P30 Pro.
Huawei P30 and P30 Pro design
Early renders of the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro have leaked and the phones look gorgeous. The front of the phone features an edge-to-edge display with a small chin at the bottom and a teardrop-shaped notch at the top. The Huawei P30 Pro features thin side bezels with a curved display similar to the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus.

The renders were first leaked by mysmartprice, showcasing the smartphone in Black, Aurora, and Twilight colors. Aurora and Twilight colors bring the shaded color compositions seen on previous Huawei smartphones. I still prefer black because it looks stealthy, but I might prefer a more vibrant color.

The renders also show a vertical camera layout on the back, similar to what we saw on last year’s Huawei P20 and P20 Pro. Overall, the new phone won’t bring about a major redesign, but rather a gradual design update. Huawei has an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach and I have no problem with that.
Performance of Huawei P30 and P30 Pro
We don’t usually include a section on performance in preview articles, but there’s a lot of news about the phone being slower than the Mate 20 Pro, which was released a few months ago. The speculation started when GSM Arena published a blog post about the Huawei P30 Pro’s leaked AnTuTu score, in which the phone scored 286,152 in that test.
This score is slightly lower than the Mate 20 Pro’s 302,985 score, which is why many blogs and websites call the P30 Pro a slow device. I don’t agree with that opinion. First of all, synthetic benchmark test scores will never tell the whole truth, so I don’t believe in following them blindly.

Even if you follow the benchmark scores closely and make purchasing decisions based on them, you should know that the phones featured in the AnTuTu benchmarks are not ready for sale. Perhaps you were still in the testing phase and weren’t running fully optimized software. In the past, there have been many examples of smartphones scoring poorly on benchmark tests like AnTuTu and Geekbench for exactly the same reason.
Both the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro are powered by the same Kirin 980 processor and offer similar RAM and storage choices. There’s no way the P30 Pro is slower than the Mate 20 Pro. Even if there is a difference between top and bottom, even professional users won’t be able to tell.
Huawei P30 and P30 Pro: launch, price, and availability
As mentioned earlier, Huawei P30 and P30 Pro will be launched on March 26th . You can watch the live stream on YouTube. These phones will be available for purchase in Europe immediately after launch, while other markets are expected to arrive in the coming weeks. As far as pricing is concerned, the Huawei P30 is said to start at 749 euros (about 58,500 yen), while the base model of the P30 Pro will cost 999 euros (about 77,900 yen). Of course, if your bank account allows, you can upgrade the RAM and storage to your liking.
