Galaxy S9 series will no longer receive updates

Samsung announced this change througha new update support page , but Galaxy S9 phones are not included as part of the monthly update schedule. So, if you’re still using your Galaxy S9, it’s time to move on.

For those who don’t know, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ received their last major software update in the form of Android 10 in 2020. This was followed by updates being provided once every three months, as mentioned above.

As of now, the Galaxy Note 9, which was launched in the same year as the Galaxy S9 series, has moved to a quarterly update schedule along with the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, and S9’s successor, the Galaxy S10e. phone. This means Samsung will likely end software support for these phones next year.

Currently , only the Galaxy S10 5G and S10 Lite from the Galaxy S10 family are eligible for the monthly update . We expect it to reach a quarterly update cycle next year, but it will likely stop the following year.

Samsung ended support for the Galaxy S9 series after four years, at a time when there was no decent software update policy in place and not all Android smartphones (unlike iPhones) suffered this fate. Very impressive considering this smartphone was launched.

Samsung has been kind enough to support its own much older devices, so its new policy will likely prove even more beneficial to many people. To remind you of Samsung’s current update policy, the company currently provides four major software updates and five security updates . However, this applies to newer Samsung phones and not older ones.

So, what do you have to say about this new update? If you own a Galaxy S9, will you finally upgrade? Let us know in the comments section below.
