Regardless of Starfield’s shortcomings in pacing and storytelling, the care put into creating in-game items like armor sets and spacesuits is commendable. These not only utilize the NASA punk aesthetic the game is trying to achieve, but also serve as protection for the characters. Starfield armor isn’t just for show, as each set also has specific protective properties. So some of these spacesuits are better than others. In this article, we have listed the best Starfield armor (or spacesuits) that you should get.
After playing the game for about 50+ hours, I chose these armors based on a variety of factors. Some are easy to obtain, while others require completing missions in Starfield. Anyway, each armor listed below is perfect for you to own. Plus, you can mix and match for the best results.
1. Mark 1 spacesuit
- How to obtain: Just below Constellation Lodge; Trapped in a glass case
- Damage: 120 physical
Our first choice on this list is Starfield’s sleek and elegant Mark 1 spacesuit. The items are locked inside a glass case, so it’s difficult to get there and you need to be a master lockpicker in Starfield. But, as many people have noted, if you peek at the spacesuit through the slit in the case, you can get it yourself. Just like me.
The Mark 1’s armor is similar in color to the Constellation’s armor. However, in terms of stats, he is an all-rounder. 20 protection from heat, 30 protection from corrosion, and deals 120 physical damage to enemies. Combine this with Starfield’s best weapons and these stats make it a great early game choice.
2. Reactive Mantis Armor
- How to obtain: Reward from The Mantis questline.
- Damage: Random
We’ve covered the Mantis Quest solution, and I still stand by my position that the quest is one of the better-written side stories in the game. Completing it will reward you with a spaceship from the early games and a Starfield version of Batman’s armor. The Mantis may lack some edge and aesthetics compared to most space armor in the game. However, this is legendary armor, meaning it offers some of the best stats in the game.
However, Mantis’ biggest problem is that her stats are randomized. Different people will find different stats for this armor. In our case, we received thermal protection. Therefore, before choosing a Mantis spacesuit, be sure to create a save file. Then load into the game and reroll to find your desired stats.
3. UC Vanguard Spacesuit
- How to obtain: Awarded after completing the quest line “Grunt Work”.
- Damage: 64
The UC Vanguard is one of four factions you can join in the game and can perform a variety of jobs. You can get the UC Vanguard armor in Starfield by completing the second mission of the faction questline called “Grunt Work.” Probably very similar in design to the Kamen Rider suit, following the design and colors commonly seen on United Colonies Space Marines banners.
The UC Vanguard’s armor provides 64 damage, 15 heat protection, 30 air protection, and 15 radiation protection against enemies. This would be another all-around great spacesuit for you to wear. Thanks to its radiation protection, this spacesuit should become the go-to option on planets and plains exposed to radiation.
4. Constellation Armor
- How to obtain: After completing the “Old Neighborhood” questline.
- Damage: 78
Traveling with the Constellation is at the heart of Starfield, allowing you to acquire armor that corresponds to that faction. And it’s not bad at all. Starfield’s Constellation spacesuit is visually similar to the Mark 1 spacesuit. However, this is also an early option for many players due to its large capacity.
This armor set is made for exploration and has 30 protection against thermal damage, 20 protection against corrosion, and 10 protection against radiation damage. Otherwise, this space armor deals 78 physical damage to enemies.

5. Mercury Space Spacesuit
- How to obtain: On a mannequin at the NASA Launch Facility.
- Damage: 108
While playing the “Unearthed” mission in Starfield, you will find a relic of the past in the form of armor. Dubbed “The Mercury,” this space suit is very easy to miss. However, if you choose this, you’ll get one of the best armors in the late game, with great stats and aesthetics. It also comes with actual history.
The spacesuit is based on the actual Mercury spacesuit worn by the U.S. military on high-altitude aircraft from 1959 to 1970. In terms of stats, it deals 108 damage to enemies and provides 25 protection against corrosion, radiation, and heat damage.
6.Ecliptic Spacesuit
- How to obtain: Dropped by Eclipse Mercenary.
- Damage: 56
Eclipse mercenaries are members of a faction that you’ll regularly lock horns with. Defeating them will drop a visually cool piece of armor called the Zodiac Spacesuit into the starfield. Statistically, this suit does not cause much damage to enemies. Only deals 56 damage. However, thermal protection will be 30 and corrosion protection will be 20.
This makes the zodiacal spacesuit ideal when traveling and exploring space. Check out the best planets to set up an outpost while you regularly go exploring to earn resources and money in Starfield.
7. Space suit of the Varoon fanatic
- How to obtain: Dropped by Varun fanatics.
- Damage: 68
House Va’ruun is one of the edgiest factions in the game, willing nothing but death to spread their beliefs and practices. Although their motives are questionable, you receive a visually appealing set of armor from them.
Starfield’s Varoon fanatic’s space suit deals 68 damage to enemies and can annihilate any obstacles that may get in your way. Additionally, it provides protection against heat and corrosion damage.
Finally, we recommend mixing and matching each of the three parts of the armor set to get the best results in a given situation. This includes suits, helmets, and boost packs. Customize and choose the best among the many to create the perfect armor for your journey in Starfield. Do you have a better space armor than the ones listed? Then let us know below.
