Popular microblogging giant Twitter has recently added various features to its platform to improve the user experience. The company today announced a new edge-to-edge timeline design for videos, GIFs, and photos in Twitter for iOS, adding to a list of existing test features.
The company announced the feature in an official tweet and a short video. As part of the test, Twitter for iOS displays videos, GIFs, and images edge-to-edge, with no blank space around them . Twitter wrote in an email to The Verge that it is testing features that would improve both visual-based and text-based conversations on the platform.
This increases the viewing area of shared media and allows users to view videos, GIFs, and images attached to Tweets in a more immersive way. You can check the official Twitter tweet below. As you can see in the video, media files attached to tweets are displayed in a large format on the timeline. This is similar to what Facebook and Instagram offer for videos, images, and GIFs on a user’s timeline, providing an edge-to-edge view.
Now, when this timeline design change becomes available, Twitter says it’s currently testing it on iOS devices. Therefore, it’s too early to tell whether the company will roll it out to everyone in the future. We’ll keep you updated on further developments regarding this redesign, so stay tuned.
