YouTube for Android mutes autoplay videos in your home feed

Autoplaying videos is quite annoying as it not only consumes your precious mobile data but also can lead to awkward situations when web pages automatically play videos with high volume settings. Chrome 64 for desktop recently introduced a new feature that automatically mutes autoplaying videos, and it looks like the same feature is now coming to YouTube on Android.

YouTube has now started rolling out a new feature called “Autoplay on Home.” This, as the name clearly suggests, allows users to adjust the autoplay video controls to mute videos that automatically play in YouTube’s home video feed.

Previously, you could only enable or disable the autoplay video feature when the video you were watching ended. However, YouTube now has another option in the autoplay section of its settings menu called “Autoplay on Home” that automatically plays videos that appear in your home feed, even if the audio is turned off. .

Users can choose whether to automatically play these muted videos in the app’s home feed. You can also change the data consumption settings associated with the AutoPlay at Home feature and choose from three options: Always On, Wi-Fi Only , and Off. Please note that muted videos only play automatically on the home screen, this feature does not work on channel pages, search results, trending or subscription tabs.

To use this feature, tap the Account icon in the YouTube app for Android > Settings > Autoplay > Autoplay on Home and adjust the feature to your liking.

The “Autoplay on Home” feature is currently being tested among some users, or the rollout may have been delayed as we attempted to test it on Nokia 8 and Pixel 2 with Android 8.1 running the updated YouTube app. It seems to be geographically limited. , but I couldn’t find an option to turn it on.
